  • 1.  Receipt for Gift Through Fidelity Giving Market Place

    Posted 03-13-2025 09:21 AM

    Hello, all!

It's that time of the year where folks are asking for tax receipts. I just started at GT and of course more donors means more ways to give! I have a donor requesting a receipt for their gift they gave through Fidelity Giving Market Place. I know this is a third party, but is it a charity? Should the donor be getting their receipt from Fidelity or from us?

Just want to make double sure before providing anything.

    Thanks for your help!

Fidelity Workplace Giving is an employer/employee benefits platform. The donations are facilitated through Fidelity Charitable. Employees receive a receipt from Fidelity Charitable when they contribute through this platform.

You should confirm this information by reviewing the backup information provided along with the check. However, you can learn more about Workplace Giving here:

You will also find this DAF reverence about halfway down the page:

It is possible for donations from the donor to be made directly to the organization without going through a DAF. If you have a Stripe account, they will show up in that account. Below is from the Fidelity Marketplace FAQ. I also emailed them to confirm this. However, they do indicate that the donor still gets a payment receipt from their side and advise that if the donation is greater than $250, that the receiving charity should send an acknowledgement letter (likely based on IRS pub 1771).
