  • 1.  Gift in Kinda from International Branch of Instiution

Our Europe counterparts (technically a branch of the US institution NOT a separate organization) have recently accepted a piece of land and we are thinking through how we ensure the transaction is counted in the campaign, documentation, tax liability, etc. Has anyone had a similar situation? Can we connect to talk about the intricacies?

Thanks for the help in advance!

The counting part is easy-everything else you need to leave to the CFO, Counsel, Risk Assessment Office, etc.

For counting, you treat this like any other proposed gift of real estate. The Gift Acceptance Committee must first approve the gift. And, if there's any question regarding the carrying value, they can also agree on the value. Then it's only a matter of entering the gift in your CRM, but without feeding it to the GL. As your affiliated organization will own the property, it will likely handle the asset booking.

As a reminder, for CASE compliance, we all can and should count all donations made to our affiliated supporting organizations as though they were gifts to us
