    Hi,

We had a building burn down a few years ago and in the near future they will be knocking down the reminder portion of the building. They are talking about taking the bricks from the building and creating a fundraiser appeal.

Just curious if other schools have had brick/paver fundraisers and how they handled them. Were the bricks all the same amount?, Did you print the donors names on the bricks???, etc...

    Thanks

    Liz

I've seen variations on this theme!

When I was at Duke University, we replaced the floor of Cameron Indoor Stadium (now Coach K Court). We sold sections of the old floor for various amounts depending on the section size and whether it included any of the imprinted striping or logo.

One thing to keep in mind - as we did at Duke - is that these sections had fair market values. We had to determine what those were and mostly sold the sections for those prices. While the sales resulted in the receipt of programmatic funds, the payments were not tax-deductible as buyers received something of equal value.

Hi Liz - I have been involved in 2 different brick campaigns. The first one, we were selling old bricks from a historic campus building because a wall had to be replaced. The second one, we were selling new bricks that were on the campus walkway.

With the old bricks, we affixed a small plaque to the bricks with the name of the building and the year of its founding. The selling point was, "own a piece of Griffith Hall". I can't remember exactly what the price point was but we were essentially selling something that would have been otherwise thrown away so the price point was low.

With the new bricks on the walkway, we engraved the donor's name, class year, family name, etc. onto the brick and have it paved into our donor garden. This is a naming opportunity for our annual fund.

    Hope this helps.
