    I have searched and searched the forums but haven't been able to find exactly what I am looking for with so many variables, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered before.

    We have a donor who would like to make a donation to cover the amount of an award we give out through our student entrepreneur elevator pitch competition. The donor has asked if they might use their DAF to make this contribution and would they themselves be able to be recognized as the sponsor in this case even thought the gift is from their DAF and not themselves?

    I have the same questions if the individual is to be a judge for the competition as well, to which I also found this thread.

    Assuming that the payment qualifies as a charitable donation (you have selected the recipient and the awards meet IRS criteria), a DAF gift is acceptable.

    However, as with scholarships, a donor or advisor cannot be a part of the selection process. That raises donor control issues outlined in good detail in the CASE Standards.

    As for recognizing the individual is concerned, that is for the DAF to determine. It is, after all, their gift. Most won't have an issue although some will require a mention. Something like, "Donated by XYZ DAF under the advice of John Taylor."
