Hello,
I have been searching the archive threads, but I seem to be having no luck on this broader topic. We have a stone program that donors can give towards and in turn have a memorial stone included on campus. Typically, the receipt for the donor would include a quid pro quo amount that would include the amount of the benefit which would be the stone.
In this scenario, there are multiple donors donating in memory of an individual to have the stone placed. The amounts will be different based on what the donor decides to donate. In my understanding, there would be no quid pro quo in this scenario since it seems the group of donors are not really receiving a benefit. There is also a clause in the letter to the donors that if the fundraising efforts do not meet the minimum needs the gifts will be allocated as unrestricted. If there does need to be a benefit, would it be a percentage of the stone based on the amount of the gift?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated on this.
Thanks,
Marc
