  • 1.  Odder and other tools for online endowed fund reporting?

    Posted 07-18-2024 08:36 AM

    Hi,

We are a small shop, still doing our endowed fund reporting using paper and US mail. We send out about 600 packages each year.

We're looking at Odder as a possible way to move our reporting online. What are the thoughts on Odder-- or other tools-- for this purpose?

My impression is that these tools are more about elevating the donor experience than gaining efficiencies in production.

Would love to know if that is the general impression. Or specifics about your experience with this or similar tools.

Also, I keep wondering if there is some obvious in-house solution we could use instead of buying into a new tool. Like I said, smll shop, so even $8k per year is a big spend for us.

    Thanks,

    Susan

    Hi Susan,

We have done some assessment work in the endowed reporting software space. There are two main buckets of functionality. Odder represents the donor-facing communication and reporting side, and as you say, there isn't necessarily an efficiency gain in using a tool like this. However, there are several other tools for the actual endowment accounting, fund distribution, and spending rules compliance work that are lifesavers, from an efficiency perspective. Evertrue, the owner of Odder, also owns Balance (nee Fundriver.com). Regardless, I'd say that this is the luxury option in the market.

You might consider https://adavico.com/ - for your size and region, I think they're the market leader, and their model includes more services and support.

Thank you so much, Isaac. Our business office does use Adavico, but the stewardship side of that is lacking, at least the way we have it configured. I'd be interested in learning more about how we might be able to lean into that. If anyone else uses Adavico to create their fund reports, please reach out!
