  • 1.  No more capital funds?

    Hi everyone,

I had an email today from our CFO informing advancement that we are to stop using capital fund codes in gift entry.   In future, we are to send over any gifts to capital projects (e.g. funding the construction of a new stadium) coded as current restricted funds. Is this familiar practice for anyone else? Thanks for helping me understand.

That might be what they want for accounting purposes, but for fundraising activities, CASE continues to require reporting on capital fund donations.

It sounds to me like your CFO is treating you like a subledger. You really should not have to flag ANY gift for ANY accounting purpose. The fund you deposit the gift to should automatically have the necessary accounting attributes on the GL for the CFO to do their thing.

This is why most Advancement CRMs have a VSE dropdown within the fund/allocation/account table. You can flag various account numbers for reporting the way you need to internally and for the VSE. In contrast, the CFO should flag and report from the GL fund accounting structure.
