  • 1.  Donor control question

    Good morning all!

We have a department interested in soliciting corporate sponsors for a student research poster competition, with prizes awarded to the top winners. They'd like to offer sponsors the chance to serve as judges for the contest, as part of a panel made up mostly of professors. This seems like a case of donor control to me, but could it be permissible since they would not have veto power or sole power to select the recipient?

It is similar to the scholarship issue. It is not so much that the donor has "veto" power. It is the fact that their mere involvement may influence the selection process.

Please see the newest CASE Standards, which provide details regarding donor control and influence.

Thanks, John! That was my instinct, but it's always nice to double check with this community.
