  • 1.  DAF payment received after benefits used

Has anyone dealt with payment through a DAF received months after the event at which a corporation received seats under a sponsorship and used some of them? And more generally, how are other shops dealing with corporations paying sponsorships through services such as YourCause, which disburses through the Blackbaud Giving Fund, a DAF?

Qualified Sponsorship Payments can be paid by DAF, since they definitionally do not provide any substantial benefit to the company.

DAFs cannot be used to pay for benefits like seats. Before accepting the gift, you should talk to the company and the DAF and work things out. Hopefully it's an innocent misunderstanding or clerical error. CSR folks aren't always on top of these rules, and some DAF sponsors do very little diligence beyond asking the donor advisor to affirm that they're not getting any impermissible benefits.
