  • 1.  Separate Gift-in-Kind Donations from Same Donor

    If a donor gives a non-cash gift valued under $5k and a few months later do the same, where together they now exceed $5k, is an appraisal required?  
    The IRS publication related to GIK isn't clear on how this should be handled.   Thank you.

    Only if the donation is two parts of a single item. The appraisal requirement applies to an individual item, not a period of time.

    IRS Publication 561 and the instructions for Form 8283 provide more information on property donations.
