I know raffle ticket sales are not tax deductible and I've never recorded raffle tickets on a donor's record, but my current organization records them on every constituent record and then adjusts the receipt amount to $0.  Are others entering this way?

I have seen some nonprofit organizations record these as nongifts so they don't count in fundraising totals. But for most who want to track participation, they utilize the Event functionality.

You can record these sales elsewhere in most CRMs, but it's best to separate deductible from non-deductible revenue. One is a purchase and the other is pure philanthropy.

We do the same thing.  Events are a HUGE volume for us and the data for engagement is vital for our event staff.

This really depends on your CRM functionality. Often, the underlying reason for recording these as $0 gifts is related to some visibility/reporting issue.

Isaac, I think they are saying they record them with an actual amount, but then change the receipt to reflect $0. I do not endorse that practice. However, a $0 gift amount is okay if the CRM doesn't offer any other option.

It's certainly not my favorite approach either, but sometimes we have to live in the world of the possible. My advice to Melissa is simply to make sure to check for any reports or workflows that might be impacted by changes to the process.
