In my relatively new role at my current institution, I'm finding that our business office has very different expectations and procedures than what I was familiar with at my previous institution. Currently, they're pushing back that the date we posted some gifts made with PayPal do not match the dates of the transactions from the PayPal platform; the gifts were made at the end of September but we did not process them until the beginning of October and now they are questioning what the "correct" date is. My understanding and experience is that our dates in advancement are simply a reflection of when we process the gift. I understand the need for the alignment of dates across fiscal years, but across months? Apparently they expect us to align all of our posting dates with online transaction dates.
Am I correct in my stance on advancement's gift/post dates, and is this a fight worth fighting?
