  • 1.  Paying a pledge with a DAF and Campaign Reporting

Hello,  I'm interested in finding out how other organizations handle multi-year Campaign reporting when a pledge is reduced due to a third party contribution. I understand a third-party donation cannot be directly applied to an individual's personal pledge.  The donation should be recorded in the Third party's record with credit to the individual, the individual's pledge is then reduced by the amount of the donation.  For Campaign reporting, the pledge total is reported during the year the pledge is initially recorded.  How do you account for reducing the pledge total in a future year without affecting the campaign totals for the year the initial pledge was recorded?

Just do not change previous year results. You have the same issues when you write-off pledges when donors tell you they won't pay up. And when you return a gift for some reason.

Leave the original yearly totals alone and simply adjust the grand total. Unfortunately, some CRMs will subtract the reduction from the current year, underreporting your productivity.

We add a footnote on reports when showing annual campaign totals at many clients. The note indicates that the annual amounts do not add to equal the total campaign due to gift and pledge adjustments and write-offs.
