A few years back we would receive the applications with the parents employment, however the applications no longer have the employment on it.  What do other colleges do to obtain information on parents so that they can determine if they are a prospect with high capacity?  We are a very small shop with a research that is full time with other duties that essentially makes them part time.

When I was at NC State, we collaborated with the Admissions Office to have them collect the pertinent parent information we needed. This did NOT include employer information but did include the opportunity to provide work numbers and email addresses.

These data were recorded in Slate where we pulled an electronic feed shortly after the deposit due date. This, then, gave us ample time to conduct a specific wealth screening for all incoming parents during the summer, giving us a full picture - including employment - of all incoming parents.

I should clarify that I am not sure whether the app included employment information or not. But performing the wealth screening is what was key to our success.

You can append employment info. A number of vendors will sell you that.

    Hi Aimee,

If your institution is using the Common App there are fields for "Relation Employer" and "Relation Title". I'm receiving that information from Admissions with the Relation list they provide us. I will say that since we started getting this off the Common App the quality of what we receive has changed. The title column must have a drop-down that the students can use, so we get lots of "Lawyer (attorney) or judge" or "Business executive (management, administrator)" or "Teacher or administrator (secondary)" where we previously would have received a more specific title. Some students do still fill the field in with an actual title.
