  • 1.  Names as DAF successor. Recommendations how to book

    Hello AASP community,

A donor who has stabled a  (family) DAF through fidelity has sent us a screenshot that they made us the 100% successor of the account. We do not know how much is in the account. They are major donors from both their personal donations and through that same DAF to our organization. What are the best practices for booking this gift?  A revocable planned gift with a $1 value? Or just as an opportunity, for tracking purposes. Should we ask them for the approximate value and use the NPV for booking the gift? We use RENXT. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

There isn't anything to "book" unless the DAF stipulates in writing an amount they guarantee. So, I think your idea is best. These are even more "revocable" than a will, as the donor's will may supercede these instructions!

I'd note the anticipation however your system allows. Some CRMs have an "In Will" indicator used when no known amount is available (like an opportunity). But $1 works, too.
