  • 1.  In-Kind Raffle/Drawing Item Acknowledgement

    Posted 10-11-2022 10:00 AM
    Hello,

One of our programs are hosting a drawing or a raffle and will be securing donations for prizes at an upcoming event. My understanding is that the drawing might be free, but I have not yet received confirmation if raffle tickets will be sold.

If raffle tickets are sold, I understand that those are not considered donations and ticket purchasers should not receive a tax receipt.

However, how do we receipt and acknowledge the organizations that donate the raffle/drawing goods? Would a gift-in-kind acknowledgement that contains the description without the dollar value suffice as we do with other GIK's?

    Thank you,
    Aimee

    You've got it, Aimee!

However, ensure that those GIK receipts also mention that the items were being used for auction purposes.  The donor must claim a reduced (cost basis) deduction since the property will not be used for related purposes.
