    Hello,

    We just had a donation check returned due to insufficient funds.  I am reaching out to the donor but it's so awkward - would anyone be willing to share their procedure/verbiage/etc. they use when this happens?  It was a small donation from a brand new donor, they aren't assigned to a portfolio or anything like that.

    We started mailing a simple letter.

     

    Dear Donor Name,

     

    We are reaching out to inform you that your check was rejected by your bank due to insert reason here for the account ending in xxxx. If you would still like to donate, please mail a new check to:

    This is very easy. You should not worry about it!

    Send the donor an email with an attachment of the bounced check image with a simple note along the lines of,

    "We are so grateful you considered LifeWorks in your charitable giving plans. Unfortunately, your bank returned your check (see the attached) due to [restate the reason].

    "Would you be so kind as to send a replacement check? Or, if you prefer, please call my direct number below, and we can immediately handle a credit card donation.

    "Sincerely,"
