  • 1.  Record CGA remainder?

    Posted 11-06-2024 12:03 PM
    Hello,

We have one CGA and I recently found out the annuitant has passed away.  We recorded the gift when we set up the annuity - I just want to confirm that we do not also record the remainder as a separate gift.  Is that correct?

That is correct. You record and count the gift in your fundraising CRM when it is established. The Finance department will also book it on the GL.

However, when the proceeds are realized, Finance will need to record additional entries on the GL. But not your CRM.

Those are investment gains - not new gifts. It is the same with donors who establish endowments. You do not count the increase in market value over the years.

Please also refer to the CASE Standards.
