    Hello,

Students are raising money via a fundraiser open to the public so that they can afford a trip to Jamaica to help provide medical aid. There are ticket prices to enter in the game which I'm assuming cannot be considered tax-deductible as it is payment to partake in gambling. Ca any 'additional donations' be counted as charitable revenue to a donor, the 50/50 raffle total proceeds to an anonymous record as charitable revenue, and the raffle baskets values be considered GIK's?

    Thank you!

    Best,

    Jeff

As long as the "additional donations" are going to the University and not a student group, you should be fine. However, none of the money raised through the raffle for tickets is deductible or countable - including the 50%. And since this is for a student group to benefit specific students, none of the donations for the raffle are deductible. either.
