  • 1.  Documented bequest provisions subject to the age of the donor

    Posted 05-04-2023 11:47 AM

    Hi,

Does anyone know what the most up-to-date age rule is for this (assuming there is a standard). I keep seeing variations from 64+, 701/2+, 75+, etc.

    Thanks for your help!

    Best,

    Jeff

There are no "rules." In the latest edition of the CASE Standards, they recommend (on page 36) that these should only be counted if the donor is 65+ or will turn 65 by the end of the reporting period.

However, given my observations as I travel across the country, I find very few institutions make this a hard and fast rule. Furthermore, if the institution began a campaign before these standards were issued, they might follow the old guidelines.

None of the numbers you mention have ever been endorsed by CASE, proving the point that institutions largely make up their own guidelines!
