Dear John,
Hello! Does an IRA letter to the donor necessarily need to be signed? Currently our IRA letter acknowledgements are signed by the Assistant Vice President of Finance. I am wondering if you think that is necessary? Thanks!

Receipt or thank you letter?
If the former, standard receipt language works. If the latter, you may wish to acknowledge the source of the gift, but the funds received are not much different from those written out of a personal checking account.

Subject: Writing acknowledgement letters for IRA donations
Good morning,
We have been using our standard Annual Fund thank you to write acknowledgements for gifts that have been made through a donor's IRA. Is there a best practice for writing a specific letter that mentions the IRA distribution?
Thank you in advance,
Angi
