  • 1.  Use of storage space - GIK

    Posted 10-01-2025 10:37 AM

    Good morning,

A donor who owns a storage facility has offered to donate the use of the space for our boat building program. Would this be considered a gift-in-kind?

    Thank you!

No. It is considered a partial interest (discussed in IRS Publication 526). It is the use of something, not outright ownership.

Therefore, it is not deductible according to the IRS and is not countable according to CASE. However, it certainly is recognizable and you could offer soft credit for that recognition.

And lots of thank you letters. Just no receipts!
