Unscientific Crypto Vendor Survey

  • 1.  Unscientific Crypto Vendor Survey

    Posted 09-21-2022 08:44 AM
Greetings from New Orleans and aasp Summit.  It has been fantastic seeing 560 of our closest friends and colleagues!

There have been many great online and offline conversations.  Among those is the topic of accepting cryptocurrency.  It is great to see how many organizations have moved toward accepting these.

So here is the related survey question:
    • For those who have formally adopted acceptance of cryptocurrency, what vendor are you using?
Feel free to respond to the list.  Or, if you prefer, send me your response, and I will tabulate the information and send it back to the list.

Oh, and if you are not using a vendor and are doing your own thing with a virtual wallet, that information is useful for the survey, too!

At the University of Puget Sound our Board of Trustees updated our Gift Acceptance Policy last May to authorize the acceptance and holding of donations of crypto currency. These donations are held by/through Gemini Institutional. Outright gifts of crypto currency (those that are converted to US dollars at the moment of donation) are still handled through Bitpay.

Anecdotally, we've found that organizations generally are preferring solutions that do not require them to have a wallet, but also do not process transactions through a DAF or foundation.

    Hi John,

San Jose State is not yet accepting crypto.  Our current gift acceptance policy indicates that we prefer the donor convert it to USD and then give us the money.  However, we are interested in possibly contracting with one of the companies that help non-profits handle these types of transactions.  Maria Ramirez and I attended an AASP sponsored webinar recently on this topic and we're definitely interested, but are still exploring what would work best for us.

    Hope that helps!

    Best regards,

    Beth

We use a Coinbase Prime Institutional account at Fort Lewis College, mainly to take advantage of a cold storage option for a gift we are holding onto for an extended period of time.

We don't accept crypto, nor have we been offered any.
However, our department has been asked to look in to this process and make recommendations for policy updates, devise internal processes, and identify vendors. We are interested in the results.
