  • 1.  Soft Credits From Family Foundations

    When we get a gift from a family foundation, we have been soft crediting only one spouse, even though both spouses are in the database (long story as to why we've been doing it this way).  So I proposed to my new VP that we should be soft crediting both spouses.  She agreed, but said that the soft credit amount should be split between the two spouses.  In other words, a $1,000 gift from the foundation would create two $500 soft credits to the two spouses.  I think that the soft credits should be for the full amount (i.e., two $1,000 soft credits to the two spouses).  Which is correct?  Thanks!

    Both of you are correct :-).

    Neither of you is incorrect.

    I prefer 100% to both and do the same thing with employer matching gifts. What matters the most is how you do recognition societies. If by household, splitting makes more sense. But if by the individual, 100% is better.
