  • 1.  Setting up a matching gift program

    One of our donors received our automated Double the Donation email to ask if their company matches gifts.  The donor works for a local CPA firm and now that firm is inquiring about how to establish such a program.  I have not had experience in assisting a company set up a program.  What guidance can we provide for such a request?

     

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions or things to watch out for.

    Hey, Scott!

    Back in the olden days, when I was at CASE, I managed the CASE Matching Gift program. We also formed a Matching Gifts Symposium that included several members of the corporate sector. Those representatives collaborated on publishing a book, "Matching Gift Administration." We published the third edition in 2005. The book includes several chapters on starting a matching gift program.

    I'd contact CASE to see if they still have any of those books.

    Perhaps their easiest option would be to outsource the program to a company like Blackbaud/YourCause, Benevity, Bonterra/Cybergrants, GivingTrax, Bright Funds/Submittable, etc.
