  • 1.  Raiser's Edge NXT freezing in database view

    Hello! Apologies for using this platform for this type of question, but I am getting desperate for answers. For the last 3 months, I have been experiencing freezing issues in RE database view. It has been intermittent throughout the Summer. It fixes itself and works fine without any issues for a couple of weeks at a time and then it'll start freezing again. I am able to log in without issues, but the freezing starts after 5 mins. I have already spoken countless times to Blackbaud Support without a resolution. The last piece of advice was to uninstall and reinstall and old version of Citrix, but that didn't work. My own IT department has tried everything they know to try, I have called AT&T (my service provider) to see if something may be related to the Wifi at home or firewalls or if there is anything they could see, but all clear on their side. I work remotely for a majority of my time and go to the office a few days a week and it works from there, it's just at home that I am experiencing the freezing issues. Thank you for your help!

    I am sure you have pursued all of the following, but these are known issues discussed in the Blackbaud Knowledgebase:

    Invalid records
    A record with invalid or special characters can cause The Raiser's Edge to hang when matching records.

    Duplicate records
    Duplicate records can cause issues when the integration tries to match to both records simultaneously.

    NetCommunity plug-in
    Processing transactions in the NetCommunity plug-in can cause The Raiser's Edge to hang while creating a batch.

    Dashboard
    Selecting the Dashboard page can cause The Raiser's Edge to freeze for one user on all workstations.

    Citrix client
    An out-of-date version of the Citrix client can cause issues.

    My prior organization experienced this kind of behavior in the office for both RE and FE. We were on the Blackbaud-hosted Azure cloud. It was very hard to diagnose since as you say, there didn't seem to be any consistency and the institution's network team was insistent they weren't doing any packet-shaping. It ended up being a lot of finger-pointing, and we never found the root cause because over time, the issue eventually went away. To this day, I believe it may have had something to do with available bandwidth.

    Are you on a work-provided laptop, or a separate device at home? You mention being an AT&T customer - you may want to temporarily disable any additional provided tools like "ActiveArmor." Additionally, check your network speeds using a tool like speedtest.net. Additionally, though WiFi is great for broad coverage, it has a lot of latency and there can be significant packet loss. Try testing a hard-wired setup if you can and see if that makes a difference.
