  • 1.  Question regarding KPMG Foundation Gift

    Posted 01-24-2025 12:42 PM

We have an alum that has a pledge for $5,000.  They work for KPMG Foundation and KPMG sent a check for $10,000.  On the check it says donor name.  I'm assuming $5,000 is matching gift, however KPMG sent $10,000 which includes the donors portion of the pledge.  Can $5,000 be put toward the persons pledge?  and then $5,000 as a matching gift? The rule of thumb has been who the check is from gets the hard credit (so that would be KPMG).

As the funds came from a foundation you will not be able to satisfy a personal pledge. You should write that off and record the entire gift from the foundation with soft credit to the individual - much like you would a gift from a DAF.
