Hi Dawn, our university follows what John stated. :)
In case this might be helpful to your acknowledgement/receipt we only send an acknowledgement letter with the first sentence always stating - "Thank you for your gift in the amount of ___ from your Individual Retirement Account, which was designated to...". Then in the footer of the letter we have tax language - "We are writing to acknowledge that we received your gift directly from your plan trustee/administrator and that it is your intention for all of your gift to qualify as a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA under section 408(d)(8) of the Internal Revenue Code. In that connection, we warrant to you that our organization is qualified under section 170(b)(1)(A) of the Internal Revenue Code and that your gift was not transferred to either a donor advised fund, or a supporting organization as described in section 509(a)(3). We further warrant that no goods or services of any value were or will be transferred to you in connection with this gift. Please retain this letter with your important tax documents and provide a copy to your tax preparer."

Subject: QCD Acknowledgements
Hi! My boss is under the impression that a QCD acknowledgement should include a zero dollar amount because the donation is not tax deductible, but I can find no evidence of this. Our current acknowledgement letter has the following as a footer:
"The Children's Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization - contributions to which are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. No goods or services were provided in return for this contribution."
Is this sufficient? The dollar amount is in the body of the letter - should it be taken out?
Thanks!
