  • 1.  Perpetuity Commitment From a DAF

    Posted 04-26-2024 12:35 PM

As part of their planned giving, a donor has named our organization as the designated beneficiary of a $14,000 yearly grant from their DAF when they pass. Can this be recorded as a pledge (how does that work with the removal of the 5-year pledge recording in CASE 2024 standards?) and/or if we have a statement of assets from the DAF indicating they will fulfill this grant in the future, can we book the value of the DAF as either a lump sum pledge or calculated # of years at $14,000?

My apologies for the re-ask, I know I saw this buried in a previous bequest conversation that I cannot locate again.

This is a bequest expectancy - only recordable/countable if the donor is 65+ (per CASE). However, you must have a statement from the DAF that they will honor this request - much like you must have a copy of a will. And I doubt you will get that as the DAF cannot guarantee any future payments to a specific charity.

If you feel strongly you must account for this is some way, you should run this by the Gift Acceptance Committee for approval as well as the amount to record.
