    Good morning all,

We have recently received a check for a large sum, that came with the accompanying list of individual donors. The check itself was from the Fundraising portal that our Athletes Department used. I was just wondering how other institutions handle situations like these. Do you add the names of the individual donors as soft credit? Are they stewarded by the Advancement team, or the department that did the fundraising program?

I would love to hear how others are approaching these situations, and look forward to reading through the responses.

    Happy Friday/Halloween!

Ann, if these donations were made online through a Hartwick College-sanctioned giving portal, these individuals should receive legal credit and a receipt for their donations.

I should have added that if this "fundraising portal" is a third-party nonprofit platform and they issue receipts, then soft-credit is appropriate.

If Athletics has "gone rogue" and contracted independently with a for-profit company for this, you may have other legal issues to contend with.
