I know I've asked this question before but I want to give more detail regarding it:

We have a golf outing and they charge $175.  Let's say $100 is to actually play golf.  Many years ago they would say the $75 was a donation.  However, they also get a dinner (which is at the golf club), polo shirt, and a goodie bag that includes golf balls, tees, snacks, water, and other small items.  They also have an auction during the dinner for items and sometimes are given a ticket to win items.  Let's not forget contest out on the course.

Can you count the $75 as a gift? or....

No gift with all those other benefits. Well, you have to subtract the value of the meal and short and beverages and maybe there will be something leftover - but not enough to make it worth the effort.
