  • 1.  Naming a Plant/Flower Variety

    Posted 02-14-2023 03:33 PM

    Good afternoon,

Ok, I have a weird one. I have a company that wants to name a plant/flower variety after a person. They want the gift to go into an endowment.

    1) Has anyone done this?

    2) What gift amount have you evaluated this plant/flower naming?

    3) What steps did you need to take?

Just keeping people on their toes.

Hey there, Sarah - I guess every day really is a new adventure in our wild and wacky world of advancement...  Yikes!

I haven't seen any other responses to this yet so I'll be curious as to what others might say here, but I am having difficulty translating something of no tangible value into cash being applied to an endowed fund. At best maybe this is some odd "in kind" gift where a value might be established for recognition purposes - IMHO. Have you run this by your Comptroller and/or auditors for their perspective?

Like I said, I will be curious if there are options proposed by others out here for how to convert this proposed naming concept into endowed cash. I don't envy you the navigation of such a proposal but wish you the best of luck!
