  • 1.  Lost Entity Status / Definition of Lost

Curious if others have changed their databases' criteria to a broader interpretation of lost to mean no postal address, email, or phone. Prior, many of us coded an entity as lost if we did not have a postal address, even if we had a valid phone and/or email.   Looking at VSE and CASE Global Reporting Standards, legally contactable now includes those elements:

Number Legally Contactable: An individual who is not marked as deceased, for whom you have a means of contact (phone, postal address, or email address), and who does not have a total "no contact" status (for any purpose or by any means).

Jeff, the "new" definition isn't really a change to the definition. It's always been understood (from a USN&WR perspective) that an "active" alum is someone who isn't dead - or for whom you "believe you have a valid way of contacting." The quoted phrase is meant to include people who might be coded as "do not contact." Those folk are still "active," even if you never contact them.
