    Hi there,

In 2019 there was a question posed on the listserv regarding whether a fund that provides student support for campus housing (essentially like a scholarship, but for housing) would need to be treated as taxable income by the student.

Has anyone come across this situation?  What were your findings?

You need to speak to your CFO. Tax laws swing back and forth on these matters. I recall that one of my adult children could not receive a tax-free payment that covered student housing - but my daughter (two years later) was!

IRS Publication 970 is useful for your discussion. See page 5. But do speak with your CFO, as you may not want to offer such support permanently.
