    Happy Wednesday!

I would appreciate confirmation on the following. My understanding is that we are permitted to accept donations from fraternities and sororities. In this instance, the organization would like to contribute to a scholarship fund established in honor of a professor.

Given the IRS regulations related to gifts TO  student groups and social organizations, I would like to confirm that there are no restrictions that would prevent us from accepting this contribution.

    Thank you,

    Amanda

As long as the organization is legally established outside of your University, you absolutely can receive and count the gift!

However, no "internal" group can make a countable gift to the University as the funds already "belong" to a University entity. This is addressed in the CASE Standards.
