  • 1.  Gift of Real Estate / Inspection items

    When considering a gift of real estate, we request a home inspection, appraisal, etc.  If items identified on the home inspection need attention/repair, and the charity is willing to receive the property "as is", is it permissible for the donor to make a subsequent cash donation to pay for some/all of the repairs?

    They can, but not as a condition of the sale. The donation must be voluntary and not communicated (verbally or in writing) as part of the deal.
