We have a donor who is a business-owner, who is considering making a gift in kind to us. The product is an online leadership academy that our students and faculty would have access to for 1 year. It's a digital product with online videos and tools, with some (?) degree of customization. They would also provide consultancy services to help us maximize the user experience with this product. We're excited about providing this tool to our students and would like to make a gift of this sort attractive to our potential donor.
Help!
How much (if any) of this gift can we record as an in-kind gift?
Can we record the value we would have paid had we purchased access to these online tools? Or, is the fact that the tool is online problematic, ie does it fall under the software taboo?
Regarding the consultancy services, can we record the company's expenses related to providing these services as a gift (I read that somewhere), or can we not record any element of the consultant services as a gift?
PS - it goes without saying that any Gift in Kind receipt we issue would simply state a description of the gift and no dollar value, regardless what (if any) dollar value we record in our DB.
Thanks!
