Gift from IRA - Person Deceased soon after sending. How should we acknowledgement this gift?

    Posted yesterday

    Good morning all,

We have received a gift from a donor's IRA account, and shortly after received word from his spouse that he had passed. For tax purposes, he is the hard credit and has to be included in the letter, but should we remove his name from the address/salutation?

First time one like this has come up, and any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

I would record the gift on the decedents record and add an alias name of "The Estate of John Doe" to which the receipt should be mailed. However, this should be done AFTER College has offered appropriate condolences to the family.
