  • 1.  Effectiveness of bio/demo/gift processing

    Posted 09-28-2022 07:28 AM

    Good morning!

For my data/gift management/processing peers, I am curious to know if anyone has found a way to show the outcomes of your output.  I want to be able to show that when my department updated 1,000 emails, added 500 new employments, yada yada yada Advancement saw an increase of $x.xx in donations, or X number of alums engaging with the university (who hadn't previously).

Any suggestions are welcome as we currently have nothing and I want to have the ability to show the value of our work.

    Thank you!

    Amanda

    Amanda,

I've created a Power Bi report from Raiser's Edge.  I use it not only to see the volume but it also can help to drive our operational plan.  Knowing when we have a heavier volume in # of gifts and # of event registrations helps us with planning larger data projects.

We also have – new emails, cell phones, businesses, new records, # of letters/receipts (filtered by online vs offline), etc.

depending on the system you have, this could be easy. We use RE.

Number of donations processed this FY? Quick gift query: Gift date between, or gift date greater than ___.

Number of addresses updated and/or added? Constituent query, address, all addresses, last updated by (or date last changed) --- this would work for any kind of contact information, not just addresses.

Employer relationships added? relationship query> date last changed and/or last updated by

If you want to compare these things over time, then you would run queries for multiple time frames.

I find it helps to make these things look pretty. Here is an example of a prior FY in review:

    Amanda,

For my data team, we try to contextualize our work for our strategic partners to demonstrate that value.

So, rather than track # of emails added - we'll focus on channel metrics (aka "what's the % change in our email channel (over time)?")

Annual Giving may not be data fluent enough to understand that adding 1000 emails is significant BUT
They do care when we show them a 10 percentage point increase in the email channel OR an increased deliverability rate of 15%

Our other focus is data quality metrics where we can shift the focus from quantity of data to quality of data.
For us - completeness (how much do we know) and recency (how long ago was it changed) matter to us.

Making it matter to our partners - we aim to pair those up to engagement scores and capacity ratings.
That enables my team to be more strategic while making the case of what we can do with the resources at hand.
