  • 1.  Educating Around Basics of Gift Registration

    Good morning,

I work at a local United Way who like many United Ways are diversifying their revenue to become less dependent on workplace giving and create a more traditional model of fundraising including a more robust individual giving. Our finance team, which serves as our "advancement services team" is full of great people who have worked here for decades, and only in the traditional United Way model. I have come across situations where gifts from foundations on behalf of an individual are being hard credited on the individual account with no reference to the foundation and similar instances about crediting as just an example of the issues. I am not an advancement professional but over my 20+ years in fundraising, I have spent time working in dev ops, specifically with acknowledgements. There is currently no CDO or CFO and I have the most experience out of the team and was given permission to start fixing what I can. I am trying to figure out where to begin with my colleagues in finance to start. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would review the various aasp Knowledge Base documents regarding records management. There are quite a few you will find helpful. aasp also offers many webinars during the year - and our summit is next month in New Orleans!

Here's a snip of the readily available documents in the aasp Knowledge Base (Knowledge Base - aasp (connectedcommunity.org). Please don't hesitate to contact this list or any of us privately when stuck on a particular issue.
