  • 1.  donor wishes to contribute proceeds from university-specific product

    Posted 06-04-2024 09:29 AM

    Good morning!

We have an alumna (a professional jewelry-maker) who has approached us about creating a UNH-themed bracelet and donating the proceeds of the sales to UNH. As long as she sells the bracelets herself and makes a cash donation to the university, we're thinking that it should be fine, as she would be making the money and choosing to donate it to UNH. But are there any issues with the use of our name/logo to sell the bracelets? Or any issues if we "advertise" it (in posters or emails)? And, if she gets permission (from another UNH department) to sell the bracelets on campus, does that create implications of which we should be aware? I want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.

    Thank you!

Every university I have worked with has very strict copyright and trademark provisions/restrictions. You will want to check with Counsel and probably your MarComm division.

Thank you, John! We were so focused on gift acceptance, I hadn't given much thought to copyright and trademark.

    Best,
    Laura
