Hi,
I have been asked to gather information on how public universities and institutional related foundations are handling outside requests for donor information, i.e., name, donated amount, purpose and date of donation. I know the rules for releasing information can vary from state to state depending on what state law has classified as a "protected record". We do all that we can to hold the name of a donor in confidence. Do you worry that some donors might shy away from supporting you if they know their gifts were made public? In Utah the "donor name" is not a protected record unless the donor requests anonymity in writing. For institutions in similar states what has your experience been releasing this type of information?
Thanks.
Colleen
