  • 1.  Donor Advised Fund Recognition

    Posted 03-30-2023 10:18 AM

In our organization's giving society, we recognize donors for their combined personal giving and donor advised giving. We would typically list them as: Donor Name / Donor Advised Fund Name at Institution. A donor has requested to only list their name, and not their donor advised fund name. The document from the community foundation where their donor advised fund is held included language asking us to recognize the gift as "Donor Advised Fund Name at Institution." What's best practice here, in order to recognize the donor's wishes, as well as the community foundation's recognition request?

The gifts legally came from the foundation. So, you'll need to honor their requirements. Either you need to qualify this donor based on personal gifts only, or share this language with them indicating this is not your call but the foundation's requirement.
