    Hey all,
We offer a travel program and in the past we have given cheap giveaways to our travelers. This year we are donating $10 to a specific fund on their behalf. Would the donation go on the travelers record and a receipt be sent to them or should the donation go on our company record with a soft credit to the traveler letting them know a donation to XYZ was donated on their behalf?
    I hope I'm making sense.
    Thanks,
    Tammy

If you make it clear that the $10 is a voluntary donation, it could be treated as a gift. You would be wise to include a checkbox for folk to indicate they want $10 of the payment to go to that fund. But what if they don't want to make the donation - - or prefer a different fund? It can get messy.

Honestly, I don't think a $10 donation will make a difference to them - or your travel program. And that's a lot of extra processing work for your staff.

Assuming you are using an external vendor to handle the travel stuff, it might make the most sense to advertise that the company will donate a portion of excess funds to the XYZ program. Participants might like knowing that the vendor isn't keeping all the loose change!

If, however, "the company" you refer to is WPAOG, you can still say something about excess funds being used this way. But you could not record a gift - those funds represent internal miscellaneous revenue.

I agree!  Thank you for the feedback and I will definitely suggest this in the go forward.
