    Found this interesting:

DAOs - Disrupting the charity model

Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAs) are organizations with no centralized leadership. a horizontal structure that is governed by community members, and a set of automated rules built in to the protocol which enables it to continue functioning without the need for formal leadership such as a Board. DAOs are open-sourced so that all members can contribute to its development and see the "rules" behind the DAO.

Every time I read about DAOs in the nonprofit context, I'm struck by the negativity of the underlying assumptions and claims they make about the charitable sector. DAOs are supposed to solve problems of financial transparency and accountability. Yet these do not seem to me to be the top challenges facing most nonprofits. Moreover, DAOs seem to be particularly poor solutions for dealing with these issues. The crypto and blockchain space is low-trust, filled with shadowy actors and secret identities. The token currencies that define who has authority within the DAO opaque to most folks, and the legal frameworks regulating DAOs and their underlying technologies are immature and uncertain.

DAOs are a technical expression of the antipathy towards institutions that is common in the crypto community. The idea that the nonprofit sector needs to be disrupted in some fundamental way, by wrecking its existing relationships and social capital in favor of some bizarre blockchain scheme seems more dysfunctional and dystopian to me than the system we have today. DAOs may end up being a useful structure for certain kinds of projects, but from my vantage point, I'm not bullish on their promise to redefine the sector.
