Does anyone have a protocol for establishing and managing DAF's in your shop? A donor has requested that we act as a DAF custodian for them (by EOY!) and I'm unsure how much work we'd be getting ourselves into if we agree. Is there any conflict of interest if we both manage the DAF and receive gifts from it? Are there reporting standards to the IRS that we would need to be aware of? I am happy to discuss this directly over email as well: jfancher@sdsu.edu

You must refer this to your CFO. You cannot just snap your fingers and become a DAF. Those require separate registration with the IRS.

I do not see how this can be accomplished in two days.

Though you can set up and run your own DAF, you can also partner with an existing DAF sponsor, such as a community foundation, or even a commercial sponsor like Morgan Stanley GIFT or PNC to white-label your program. But if it's just one donor, it's not worthwhile. Have them open an account at Daffy for $3/mo.
