Seeking advice/best practice in a situation I haven't encountered before:

We've received a credit card dispute on a $100 donation made last month to one of our athletic team crowdfunding campaigns with the reason being "Fraud transaction - unauthorized." The donor is a friend and this was their first gift, so we have no established relationship with them; the assumption would be that they're a friend or family member of one of the team members.

My first question is whether we accept or challenge the chargeback, but my bigger question is whether we should do any outreach to the donor or take any other action? Is it feasible that they intentionally made the gift but forgot by the time they reviewed their credit card statement? But if it might be fraudulent, isn't it also possible that the email address is forged if we were to try to contact the donor that way?

How have others handled credit card disputes like this?

It will be a bit of a pain to unravel this dispute since it is now being handled by the credit card company. Contacting the donor won't undo what has been started. However, you could provide the proof of the transaction to the company and see if that works. In the meantime, I would contact the donor and let them know.

This may be a spousal dispute where the right hand did not know what the left hand was paying. I'd follow the credit card company instructions providing proof of the transaction. But, in the end, you may need to refund the transaction and have a chat with the donor!

I had this happen about a month ago.  The wife made the gift and the husband didn't know and reported it as fraud.  Our Business Office handled the communications with the credit card company. I called the donor and got it straightened out with them, but since the fraud claim was initiated the credit card company charged it back and the donor made another gift for the same amount.  Similarly it was a first time donor to an athletic program for $100.
