Hello fellow listers,
Is anyone willing to share their guidelines for how big and how many logos you will allow on your campus from a corporate donor? Or, if you don't have such guidelines that would be helpful to know too. We have a corporate donor which has made a contribution tied to a naming opportunity (not a sponsorship), but: (1) Is requesting that their corporate logo be displayed in lieu of a generic naming plaque (which has what we've traditionally done), and (2) Would like at least two additional logos displayed (one of which would be over six feet tall). Note: This donor has a history of large gifts and sizeable athletic sponsorships to the university. I'm not aware of any IRS regulations which specifically address this, and we've already heard back from outside counsel which couldn't find a legal backstop that would categorize such logo displays as neutralizing the charitability of their gift. However, we're concerned with the setting of precedent and the optics, so we'd like to know if any other institutions have faced this dilemma and come up with a solution.
Thanks,
-Eric
