  • 1.  Associated Public Broadcasting Stations?

    Hello,

    Would there be a higher ed institution/foundation where there is a public broadcasting station, either public radio or public television, that is also associated with your college or university?  I am looking to learn how you share, or don't share as the case may be, fundraising responsibilities, donors, dollars, gifts, all the things. Would be interested in setting up a separate call to explore how this relationship is handled at your institution.  Thank you!

    Hi Nancy,

     

    I used to work at Milwaukee Public Radio which was affiliated with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The only connection we had with the university was that the foundation held our funds as they had the 501c3. So, we raised the money, and it went into accounts at the foundation. We just did monthly reconciliation with the foundation.

     

    We did not share donor information as the fundraising was completely separate. Donors were giving to support the programming they loved not because they were an alumnus/na.

    My alma mater has a hybrid community/college station.  I was a work-study there and then joined the board and have just termed off.  It was under the 501c3 of the Student Government and Student Senate and just recently was placed under the 501c3 of the university foundation. I'm happy to discuss further.
