Yes. In exchange for the "gift", the "donor" received equipment.
I used to advocate having a "non-gift" fund account or campaign to differentiate stuff like this.

This is a sale and a purchase. There is no gift unless you sell the equipment at a public charity auction and someone pays more than the FMV.

Subject: Open Data Wealth Dashboard
**Cross posting here from PRSPCT-L because I know some of you don't have an
account there.**
Hey all!
A few months ago, I posted a thread
<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aprahome.org%2Fp%2Ffo%2Fst%2Ftopic%3D499%26post%3D27333%23p27333&data=02%7C01%7Cmarla.berg%40autismspeaks.org%7C24a3a54aced442ec980808d730a8e391%7C5e19f50f01744cac878b851ca149b7cd%7C0%7C0%7C637031374251525510&sdata=z4aCZiU6fYxvLM%2Bs6LCkNGRxURnXcm5AlrZ6EoEiGJU%3D&reserved=0> sharing a
dataset that I collected containing various open data sources that we tend
to use to identify wealth (ex. political giving, property valuations, SEC
Insiders, etc.). While useful, I know that trudging through Excel
worksheets isn’t the most preferable for everyone, so I created a dashboard
to search and export that information, located here
<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsgrimes.shinyapps.io%2FWealthDashboard%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cmarla.berg%40autismspeaks.org%7C24a3a54aced442ec980808d730a8e391%7C5e19f50f01744cac878b851ca149b7cd%7C0%7C0%7C637031374251525510&sdata=kikmTIXcK2CkOR1wftf92A1iR9Z0%2FOm7pOczkBn1ST8%3D&reserved=0>.
The dashboard includes the ability to:
- Dynamically search through the entire Open Data Wealth Datasets
I’ve collected so far
- Export whatever records you need (up to 1,000 at a time)
- Filter by whatever fields you’re interested in
- Share easily with colleagues
Also, the data set now includes individuals who have registered an aircraft
with the FAA, and my next order of business with this is to update the data
before the end of the year. By this time next year, I hope to have included
a larger collection of state political giving, importing patent
information, and public board memberships. If you still want the raw data,
you can find it here
<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Ffile%2Fd%2F1ZoovQZ9wKbIRW4-gODhBRxpGf3aALh8c%2Fview%3Fusp%3Dsharing&data=02%7C01%7Cmarla.berg%40autismspeaks.org%7C24a3a54aced442ec980808d730a8e391%7C5e19f50f01744cac878b851ca149b7cd%7C0%7C0%7C637031374251525510&sdata=qsTge1B3RMac%2BOmrZnZmZYAU%2F93eIAKx%2FtA320oFosU%3D&reserved=0>.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
ps If anyone wants the code from R, I’m happy to share it (I haven’t gotten
around to making a Github yet).

Monthly. As part of a hospital, we do get a good number of these gifts. We try not to inundate people with these notices, especially since it usually takes time for people to find out about the family's wishes. We try to run a schedule around the 3rd week of the month so we can list multiple gifts at a time.
Honor gifts work the same way, as we have a special program and process for gifts made for caregivers and medical staff.

Subject: Re: Salesforce Workflows
Hi Christine,
As a full disclosure, I am a consultant and advise non profits regarding
their CRM related needs and goals, and have worked with organizations to
set up organizational processes using Salesforce.
To provide a brief outline of Salesforce's moves management: if you have a
Nonprofit Success Pack, then you have Levels and Engagement Plans. These
are the primary building blocks of moves management related workflows. You
can set up automation on Levels so as to segment your database according to
certain criterion such as total giving or capacity rating etc. and link it
with Engagement Plan that allow automating a strategy to take the
constituent through planned moves. You can add to it integrations, custom
created workflows and integrate other business processes to create a
sophisticated system for moves management.
Hope this provides you with some starting pointers regarding this. If you
have any further questions, then you can post your specific scenarios so
that the community might be able to understand your needs better.

We send a card per occurrence daily until we notice a pattern of multiple coming in, which triggers a weekly letter.
These cards and letters are handled by a staff member on the Gift & Biographical Records team.

Subject: Re: Sale of Equipment
Can you clarify the current ownership of the equipment?
If the Foundation bought it, and never transferred ownership, the sale is
from the Foundation to a buyer. The college may be playing a role as a
sales agent, but otherwise this is simply a sale.
If the Foundation gave the College the equipment in the past, and that
transaction was a complete transfer (of whatever kind), the College
choosing to now sell the equipment and donate the proceeds looks like an
outright gift to me.
If the Foundation is NOW proposing to give the the College the equipment so
that the College can sell it and donate the proceeds, if the amount donated
doesn't exceed the FMV there is no gift to anyone. There's a few ways this
analysis can go based on how the equipment might change hands, but in the
end, this looks like a sale under most of them, not a gift.
Thank you,
Isaac Shalev

If the foundation and college are affiliated - meaning the foundation is a supporting organization of the college - there is no gift period. The transfer is between legally affiliated entities. You cannot make a gift to yourself.

Yes, we are affiliated so it is not a gift. I just needed clarification of what I needed to put on the receipt to the buyer of the piece of equipment. This is the first time we have ever done this and I wanted to make sure we were doing it correctly.

Subject: Donor Advised fund where there isn't a named fund
Questions for you all!
If you receive a donation from The American Endowment Foundation, or Fidelity, or Schwab, and the letter DOES NOT give a DAF name, such as “Rose Dixon Family Fund” but it does give you Rose Dixon’s address to send an acknowledgment (w/o tax wording) – how do you record this gift?
In cases where the letter states “Rose Dixon Family Fund” our gift processing folks create a record for “RDFF” (hard credit) and a record for Rose Dixon (soft credit). But, when we get a letter that doesn’t have a name of the “fund” they put it on the individual record for Rose Dixon.
If this is the case, then ALL DAF gifts could be put on the individual record, ala the Bill Connors (and avoid creating two records, and having to soft credit) way, right??

They shouldn't be hard-crediting anyone except the entity on the check, the
entity actually making the contribution.

Subject: Re: Donor Advised fund where there isn't a named fund
In all cases of DAFs from an entity like Fidelity, they create the donor advised fund as a record, c/o Fidelity, and hard credit, rather than 50 named DAFs having hard credit on the Fidelity record.
So rather than create a record for Fidelity, they create:
Rose Dixon Family Fund
c/o Fidelity

They shouldn't be hard-crediting anyone except the entity on the check, the entity actually making the contribution.
